I am the luckiest woman on the planet!   I think I sang “I lost my partner, what’ll I do?  Skip to my Lou my darling!” about  500 times this week!   The world needs this amount of FUN all over the planet all the time!

Very candid shot of me with Raven Radio host Robert Woolsey - Click to enlarge

Tuesday morning I was invited to do a radio interview at the local public radio station KCAW 104.7 aka Raven Radio.  The interview took up the 10-minute local news block during NPR’s Morning Edition which made me feel like something of a VIC –Very Important Caller!

Alaska Flight 67, Seat 6-A -- landing in Sitka, Alaska -- Click to enlarge

This was my first glimpse of Sitka landing on Sunday about 7:00 in the evening.   It had been a magical flight from Seattle — crystal clear and sunny (“We have visibility like this maybe 3 days a year,” the pilot reported from the flight deck).

I am on my way to Sitka, Alaska.  I’ll be there for 2 weeks teaching the children of Sitka (Grades 2-5) how to dance the contras, squares and play party games I love so much.  I’ve been to a lot of far-flung locations in my work as a writer, but never to Alaska.  I’m nervous and excited and ready for FUN. on_radioKPCC 89.3 FM in Los Angeles: “Contradancing: A Living, Swinging Tradition”

Correspondent Jackson Musker form KPCC 89.3 FM Radio in Los Angeles, CA interviews Susan Michaels as she celebrates 20 years of Contra Dancing.

“Every weekend in LA, hundreds of people gather to participate in the oldest dance in the American canon—Contradancing. This isn’t a reenactment; it’s a living tradition, and it’s open to all comers. Correspondent Jackson Musker put on his dancing shoes and joined the throng at a recent Contradance in Brentwood, California led by longtime caller Susan Michaels”

In 2007 and 2008 the event was held in Portland, Oregon.

This year it moved north to Seattle, Washington for a weekend of square dance and music workshops, lots of dancing, musicians jamming, and tons of fun!

Techno-contra West

Techno-contra West

I traveled to Seattle, WA for the first ever west-coast Techno-Contra Dance at the Fremont Abbey Arts Center on 12-11-09.

It was a cold 18-degrees when I landed in Seattle but by the time I’d finished four hours of trance and techno dancing at The Fremont Abbey, I was one hot tamale.

Gene HubertAfter writing more than 100 episodes of the TV show “Sightings,” I’ve gotten pretty cynical about mystical, metaphysical and “paranormal” phenomena.  But this morning I had a visitation from the spirit realm.  It started with a phone call at about 8:45 am.  As the phone rang, the computerized voice of my Caller ID intoned …

Strange, I thought.   Gene Hubert died almost 4 years ago.
